touch up paint test (not great)

Beitrag von pjstock » 05.06.2026 13:45

I finally decided that even sloppy a touch up paint was better than my small paint chip rust spots and so I experimented with a few spots on the back door.

sanding > primer > paint > clear coat.
it all went on quite well but the end result wasnt great.

I know the original paint has faded after 20 years but the colour I used (Alaska White 9215) seems quite a bit darker white than the rest of the original paint.

did I maybe use the wrong colour?

I might as well. order another can of the other white (Arctic 8147) and see if it looks any better.

or any tips for blending the old and new paint?

il y a plusieurs variantes de blanc avec le même RAL. c'est pour cette raison qu'il est parfois nécessaire de mettre un coup de spectromètre.

My VIN says I should be using Alaska White 9215
but it doesn't look very good.
it looks much darker (almost with a hint of grey) than the rest of the body.
Now, what the rest of body looked like 20 years ago, I'll never know.
the automotive paint shop who mixed it up for me told me that if I used a polishing compound it would go a long way to restoring the original colour.
I might try that on a small area and see what happens.

Or, I try a batch of the other white, Arctic WHite 8147
